24th Annual COTSEAL-SEASSI Conference Travel Grants for Presenters

The 2018 COTSEAL-SEASSI Conference will be held July 27-28 at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

We realize that it is very difficult, financially, for many language lecturers to make the trip to Madison for the conference. Therefore, for the 2018 conference, as in 2015, we'll be dipping into the COTSEAL budget to offer a limited number of matching travel grants for those presenting at the conference.

Some Guidelines:

  • To receive a travel grant, you must be presenting a paper at the conference. The Call for Papers is here.

  • If you are able to obtain full funding for travel to the conference from your university (e.g. if you're a full Professor), or if you will be teaching at SEASSI this summer, please do not apply for a travel grant.

  • These are matching grants, and thus require that your university or college agree to fund you partially for travel to the conference. We will match the amount your institution gives you, up to $300 for the mainland US (outside a 6-hour drive to Madison, WI), and up to $400 for Hawai'i and other countries. So if your institution says they'll give you $100, we'll give you $100; if they give you $200, we'll give you $200, etc., up to the limits stated above.

  • Please indicate when you submit your paper proposal if you wish to be considered for a travel grant. Then, start communicating with those in charge of travel reimbursements at your institution right away to see how much they will give you if your paper is accepted, and make sure you tell them we're offering a matching grant.

  • If your proposal is accepted, and we notify you that we can offer you a travel grant, you'll need to have the financial officer/person in charge of reimbursements at your university e-mail us to verify the amount that they're giving you. We will then provide you with a reimbursement in that amount after the conference. You will not need to submit any travel or hotel receipts to us.

  • We have limited funds, so we will consider presenters for the travel grants on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • If you're an independent scholar (i.e. you have no institution to offer you travel assistance for us to "match"), and travel to the conference would be impossible for you without some assistance, contact us anyway; we'll consider such requests on a case-by-case basis, dependent on remaining funds at the time we receive the request.

  • If you have any questions regarding the above, contact Juliana Wijaya, COTSEAL President.
