General transportation tips

Important: If you're going to be riding buses or Sound Link Transit (rapid transit light rail which runs from the airport right to the UW campus, with stops downtown as well), it's highly recommended that you download and use the Transit Go App on your cellphone. You purchase tickets by credit card using the app, then activate them when you're ready to ride. No cash or cards required, just your phone. Detailed information about the app can be found here.

1. If you're using cash, buses accept exact fare only. Please prepare small change of $1 bills and quarters. Or use the Transit Go app (see above)

2. Link Light Rail uses tickets (cash, credit cards, and the Transit Go phone app--the latter is highly recommended, see above)

3. Like many big cities, certain areas may not the best to walk in at night or early morning (alone or in groups), especially if you don’t look like you know where you are going.

4. While walking may be enticing, Uber and Lyft are often safer, more practical and economical.

5. Seattle has hills. Please bear that in mind when you make hotel reservations.

6. Parking on campus is very hard to find and expensive. Often times, you are directed to park quite far from the conference building (Uber, Lyft are often more practical). There are parking spots and parking buildings on campus and across the main campus if you do prefer to drive.
